There are lots of activities for the whole family in and around Independence.

Heartland Acres Agribition Center, Independence, IA

Heartland showcases the past present and future of our Agriculture History. Heartland includes many hand ons exhibits, artifacts and antique tractors. Jon and his family are extremely involved in the museum and its exhibits. Click here to visit the Heartland website.

Wapsipinico Mill & Museum, Independence, IA 

The Mill is a six story grist mill on the banks of the Wapsipinicon River in downtown Independence. Many displays that demonstrate how these mills were vital in feeding early American. Open weekends. Click here for more Mill info.

Old Order Amish Community, North of Independence, IA

Located approximately 10-15 miles northwest of Independence is one of the Midwest's largest Amish settlements. Step back in time and visit any of the many shops including general stores, bakeries, harness shops, furniture makers and quilters. Be sure to leave extra room in your suitcase! We'll have maps to point in you in the right direction.

JJB Cattle Company, on the North side of Independence, IA 

Home to Jon and Crystal's cattle, here is your chance to see some of their Herefords. Almost all the babies should be on the ground by the wedding. Come back next year and there might be a few Simmentals on the place too. Feel free to stop by and check out the cattle. Click here for more information.

Isle of Capri Casino, Waterloo, IA

The casino should provide lots of fun for all you willing to test your luck. The casino is 26 miles west of Independence and 11 miles east of where the reception will take place in Cedar Falls. Click here for more information.

National Farm Toy Museum, Dyersville, IA

This museum showcases the history of all things Farm Toy with more than 30,000 on display. Dyersville was the home of Ertl Company the world's largest farm toy manufacture. Dyersville is 42 miles east of Independence. Click here for more info.

National Mississippi River Museum, Dubuque, IA 

Explore the history and importance of the Mississippi River through this interactive museum. Multiple exhibits are on hand including a 3D/4D Immersion Theatre. Stay a little long in Dubuque and check out the numerous restaurants and boutiques the town has to offer. Dubuque is an hour and 10 minutes east from Independence. Wine Country, Galena, IL 

If you are up for a day trip drive a little further and enjoy the quaint town of Galena. Galena is an hour and a half east of Independence, IA, and will be on your way if you are driving in from Chicago. Visit one of the three wineries in the area or stroll Main Street and shop their antique shops, art galleries and boutiques. The town is home to numerous bed and breakfasts.
